Growing up in Illinois I attended Charleston high school and graduated with honors and several soccer awards and accolades. After high school I attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston and was a Pre-Med Major which officially became a degree in Biology. In between my freshman and sophomore year of college I job shadowed several healthcare facilities trying to figure out which route I would pursue. The chiropractic office was the one place that people were routinely improving, feeling better, looking forward to their appointments; not dreading the bad news or getting the run-around with more meds and different tests with inconclusive results. The Chiropractic office had a vibe/energy of health and healing and helping people maintain their quality of life. That was when I knew what I wanted to do. I continued to work in that office while finishing my degree.
Originally from Toledo, Ohio moved to Lancaster S.C. in 1993 with my husband and 3 children because my husbands job had relocated. I worked in Lancaster for a large family practice for 12 years. My job as a patient account representative consisted mainly of working in billing as a sort of liason between patients and insurance companies. I also worked to achieve certificates in billing and coding procedures.
After my children graduated I decided I wanted to work for a smaller more intimate practice which led me to Carolina Chiropractic and Dr. Cooper, where I have been for almost seven years now!
Not only is chiropractic care my job, it has become an important part of my life since I had not been seen by a chiropractor in the past. When coming to work for Dr. Cooper I had been on many medications for a mild form of Multiple Schlerosis. With Dr. Cooper adjusting my spine my nerves are able to carry a clear signal to areas of my body that till then were not receiving that signal because my spine was misaligned. I eventually stopped most of my medications and until this day and have not had a major flare up of MS. Even my neurologist was impressed by my progress. Even better, I wasn’t spending money going to my family doctor with what seemed liked nothing but the same old complaints.
In February of 2008 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, with the help of chiropractic I was able to continue to work while going through chemo, radiation and surgery. My oncologist was impressed with the fact that all my laboratory tests and counts stayed within a good range and my stamina allowed me to proceed working. I attribute much of this to my faith and to chiropractic. I am now cancer free and enjoy watching what chiropractic does in others lives.
